Best way to spread Christ’s Joy is to sing loud for all to worship with
We arrived safely to RG Saturday night and after meeting my four soon to be six roommates we had dinner and settled in. I went by the house I eat at everyday and said hello. It’s amazing how these kids know when you are coming and expect you. When I was here in January I told them I would be back June 2 well I did not arrive until June 4 and was reminded by several kids that I was two days late. There was a bonfire for the older kids and we broke into small groups to discuss what was true beauty and where we should find our beauty and the boys talked about strength and where true strength comes from. I was so touched because one of the girls, Monica, who I eat with gave me the biggest hug and would not let go of my hand during the bonfire. Holding hands is a sign of friendship here and it is very common to see two teen boys walking hand in hand. After the bonfire we returned to our homes and I feel asleep quickly!
Sunday morning is one of my favorite things at RG, there is no worship like African worship! Since RG is a melting pot of cultures we sing African songs and American songs. After worshiping for about 45 minutes they do the offering, which again so cool, how it works is everyone brings their offering, some bring money and some bring crops or whatever they can bring. During the song people come forward and lay the crops by the alter with the money basket on it. After everyone has given their offering they then auction the crops to the highest bidder and that money is given in the offering. After the offering and “presentation of songs” the pastor, who is from Canada, preaches. RG has been under some serious spiritual warfare the last month so they have been looking at what spiritual warfare is and what it is not. It was really cool because I just finished a bible study on the Armor of God (Priscilla Schriver) and that is the passage that he spoke from. He had five points and we got through three but they were very powerful and truth was spoken! After the sermon there is a time of small group discussion about what the pastor has talked about and then we pray as a group and then as a church. After church I went to lunch and then we had a few of the big girls over for coffee and cards. After that we had a soccer game, very serious stuff, dinner and back to the house for some small talk and bedtime
