Servants Around the World
So when we last left off~ I along with fifteen people from our church we enjoying the sunshine and joy of Restoration Gateway. We had planned to leave Sunday after lunch, getting us home around 7pm, which was perfect because I had a team of south Korean students coming to paint the school classrooms the next day…WAIT WHAT!?! HOW DID SOUTH KOREANS IN UGANDA?
So a few weeks before going to RG, someone posted on Facebook that they were looking for one day volunteer opportunities for this group of students who were visiting Uganda for three months. I somewhat jokingly posted that they could come and paint our school classrooms. Well they responded and said they would be there Monday morning! Which was great because I was slowly painting each classroom but to be able to get them all done at once while the students were on break, was amazing.
Okay so back at RG… We packed up and went to the bus office to book our tickets (yes we could have booked in advance but that’s not the Ugandan style) the nice man at the ticket office said that the first bus that could take us all was not until the 12am bus… so we decided to split up into smaller groups and then as buses came by we could put two people on this bus three people on that bus. The first bus was full, the second bus was full, by the third bus we knew we were waiting until midnight. We booked that bus and then were told that it would not reach Karuma until 1am so back to RG for dinner and rest, three van loads later we were all standing in Karuma at 1am waiting on the baby coach bus. We loaded the bus and away we went, I slept most of the four-hour ride but others told me that it was a crazy ride and since we arrived in Kampala an hour ahead of schedule I can only guess the speeds we reached.
I went back to my house and changed into painting clothes and made a huge cup of coffee. I arrived and got each of the classrooms prepared for painting and greeted our team. The morning went well as everyone painted their classroom with primer and then the team took a break for lunch. While they were at lunch I along with 15 kids had to wash the paint basins and rollers and then prep them for the paint. Oh except there is no water hose so we have to go to the borehole, pump water and then carry the 20L of water back to the school and then do it again when we needed more water. Oh and its raining and muddy all while trying to do this.
After lunch they painted the color and then played with the kids. It was a crazy/hectic/full day but I am so grateful that we got to meet the team. It was so cool for the kids to get to see another culture that they would not normally get to interact with and that all of our classrooms were now fresh and beautiful.
How beautiful it is when the body of Christ from literally around the world serve together! What a picture of heaven!
